Welcome to the homepage of the Alpha Delta Sorority, Kappa chapter. We would like to congratulate you on your quest for finding the right sorority, it can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life! Please take your time and explore our website; we are also available on Facebook! Get a hold of us and see for yourself!
To pledge a SUNY Potsdam sorority, you must be at least a second semester freshman, with a minimum of 12 college credit hours, matriculated in either SUNY Potsdam or Clarkson University, and cannot be on academic probation or on academic warning. One must have a current cumulative GPA of a 2.0 and one's previous semester gpa must also be a 2.0. You must have formally signed up for formal rush at the Student Union.
Signing up for rush entails a few things. You must sign a grade waiver
that allows SUNY Potsdam to look at your records for the purpose of
verifying your academic standing and current grade point average (GPA).
There is a $3 application fee, which helps pay for photocopying fees, and
the ISC photo album.
At the Rush Table you will receive a flyer containing information
regarding sorority rush parties, interest parties and final tea. To
become eligible to pledge a sorority, each rush must attend all rush
parties. This is to ensure that should a rush decide on pledging a
particular house, that decision was made after carefully considering and
observing all possible options.
After attending all rush parties, you should have had the opportunity to
gather enough information to make a preliminary decision as to which
house(s) you are interested in.
For further clarification, you may attend Interest Parties. You are not
required to attend all of them, just the ones you feel you are interested
in. This is a perfect opportunity to ask any questions you may have about
anything pertaining to that house and pledging, as it varies from house to house.
A potential pledge then must get invited to Final Tea by the sorority in
which is interested in them. During Final Tea, your host will give you
information as to when and where to expect a Bid, if in fact you are
Once Final Tea is over, there is a silencing period, which allows both the
sisters of the house and the potential pledge, a time of reflection as to
the decision they are about to make.
After the silencing period, comes Preferencing. This is the time where a
rush decides officially which house she will decide on pledging, if any.
Preferencing takes place in the Student Union. You have up to 3 choices
that you can make.
If you decided that pledging is not what you want to do, you still need to
show up for Preferencing, except instead of writing down a sorority’s
name, you write down “No Preference”. This washes you clean of any
commitment. However if you fail to show up to Preferencing after signing
up for rush, you are considered a de-pledge and you may not pledge or sign
up for rush for a period of one academic year.
Once Preferencing is over, the ISC comes to order and they go through what
is called Eligibility, which consists of confirming and assuring that all
potential pledges are eligible and have fulfilled all the requirements
necessary to begin the pledging process.
Bid Night follows Preferencing, and you just follow the guidelines given
to you in Final Tea.
